Perth’s atmospheric shoegaze-influenced band SONICA follows up their moody debut ‘Descent into Blue’ with an epic upbeat tale of longing with ‘Wait for Me’.

Singer and lyricist Claire Turton delivers an emotional and impassioned plea for time in a relationship, with her remarkable vocal complemented by Alan Pettigrew’s signature neo-psych wall of sound guitars, and underpinned by an energetic post-punk rhythmic interplay between bassist Roshan Weddikkara and drummer Sylvain Ayrault.

Produced by Peter Renzullo at Scudley, ‘Wait for Me’ demonstrates Sonica’s musical versatility as they produce melodic and accessible songs which traverse the boundaries of 80s post-punk, dreampop and shoegaze genres.

The band’s unique sound has attracted interest from streaming playlisters and internet radio across Australia and internationally, with a debut album to drop later in 2021.

Yes, they sound like the Cocteau Twins but the music has ideas that I have never heard in a CT song. The vocals are just as strong as CT and the guitar has glistening strums and interesting catchy riffs. Dotsun Moon
